It is my estimation that a new era of innovation comes in cross-disciplinary knowledge. The traditional pathways in education are limited. They are old. However, it is still knowledge no doubt. For example, a chemistry major who only studies chemistry will excel only in a narrow direction. Thereby peaking the study in a very tight range of knowing. The ideas that come about are to my guessing limited. Knowledge in general is a web of information. And the web so to speak not only expands, but it twists one on top of each other. It is a system and it can be calculated. I come up with these ideas and I know in my heart that there is much potential for them right now as we speak. But the ideas and the possibilities come at certain moments and not all the time. But they come and go so fast that I don’t have a paper and pen to write them down; perhaps, I’m lazy and I don’t keep some around. But I come to know these things because I try to observe everything that I can in detail and a general scope and everything in between. But I’ve taken classes from different disciplines and maybe that’s why I can see things in a little different way. And it is this exact thing that I’m talking about. Seeing things differently. If a student concentrates on one are of study then he is limited to ideas confined to that area. Picture the web being strung only in one direction and one line of it. You are just being a little too detailed (although still necessary) to really make a big leap in innovation. Cross-disciplines I think is the key. For example, I’m majoring in computer science but I plan on studying a lot of other things so that I can come up with original ideas as it pertains to my being a computer scientist or an engineer. This concept of diversifying your study is essential for progress in general. Every area of study is a sphere; it has a core and from there it expands. The core is made of the basics or fundamentals of the discipline and it progressively expands reaching into other areas of study thereby intersecting with other disciplines and thereby creating the web. This is constantly changing depending on how fast progress is made by individuals or groups of individuals whatever the form which is not my main concern here. Ultimately the gaps in the web get filled and our knowledge at that particular spot is complete. The web could expand forever or it could expand, bend and finally wrap around where there is nothing else left to learn. But my belief is that knowledge is infinite for argument’s sake and that if we ever find the end we will find or discover God.
But first we have to go to the stars and explore other worlds, so this former part has to be put on hold for a while. Just to go off on a tangent I was playing with my rubix cube and it was thing that it could act as a lock for something and I don’t know what maybe a lock to something important and if we put it in front of the person trespassing he or she would have to solve the puzzle in order to get in. And if the person is able to solve it we have confidence that they are intelligent enough to handle whatever we are trying to keep unwanted entities away. I know this might not make sense but I’m trying to explain. Let’s take the Egyptian pyramids for example. What if there is a secret hidden in it? And they didn’t want just anyone trying to get in like some idiot that might ruin the whole mechanism out of ignorance and no caution. Well what if the Egyptians put a rubix cube in front of the entrance and anyone who wanted to get in had to solve the cube. If not then the doors wont’ open. This of sounds like Stargate SG1 the movie and the TV series, but it’s a fun idea.
