Street Smarts

All the street markings are based on logic. The more recent the makings the better because it should get better and it should make you a better driver. It’s there for your safety but I see it as another way to drive. There is something about the markings that intrigues me. It guides the car especially at high speeds. If the markings are correct which they almost are then you should have no problem driving. But I know some intersections are hectic. The markings might confuse you for example some are solid and then others are broken lines. The color is important to so that you could see the difference. The arrows at right angles the thick and thin lines should tell you something about how you should predict the road. And I don’t want to forget about the posted signs. But I use these markings and symbols in a different way in my mind. The only markings I am familiar with are the ones in Los Angeles, California. And I can say that over time these signs and markings have not only become more complex but in that complexity came clarity. One thing that I imagine is that I line up my right front tire with the white solid line and when the line breaks, I hook the line with my right front tire (but we know that the rear tire is no doubt going to follow, right? Right). I find what I do very hard to explain but I am trying my best. The best thing would me to show you graphically what I do but that is going to be too tedious for me so I’m just going to write it down. Now when the line breaks you have time to “unlock” the front wheel steer to the right just a tad and you drive with the white line inside you right two wheels (but you must be very careful to not hit any bikers or pedestrians). I say this because the road wasn’t designed with my kind of driving. This is something I came up with on my own. For me it makes driving more fun. So let’s stick with this white solid line. The line could be the left side of the biking lane which there are plenty in the valley in and around Sherman Oaks or Encino, California. So let’s say that you are driving normally and by that I mean the speed limit here. You don’t have to drive fast in order to drive this way. The speed limit will suffice. But as you increase your speed the harder my kind of driving becomes and the more dangerous. I would advise you to stay away from this article unless you are an experienced driver. So back to the white solid line. The line is there to the right and you are in your far right hand lane you cannot cross that line unless it breaks. If you cross that solid line you are gravely mistaken. Now when I drive and that white solid line breaks I say to my self “unlock” and place my right side of the car to the inside of the white solid line and when that break alleviates you have to stay in that locked position until that solid line breaks again. I drive this way because I am dreaming about one day when some driving could become automated. By hooking that line my car has a guide and therefore there is no discrepancy about the position of my car on the road. I am guided by that white line. But you might say oh yeah we’ve seen this kind of automation in science fiction movies like “I, robot”. I would agree. But nowhere do I see anything like the movies that we are used to on the road. So I have to play it out in my mind. This kind of driving prepares me for the future in terms of actually having the kind of technology or know how in respect to the science fiction movies. A fully automated grid is possible, but then I would like some manual control so that I can have some fun with my car such as racing it on the streets. For example the new markings on Ventura Boulevard makes the road into a runway, and, yes that’s how I see it. It’s very exciting. I have the deepest respect for those people that work on the roads like Kiewit. The lines on the road could show you how to shoot out of a turn (a side note). If we could put some kind of sensors right beneath the pavement and that coincide with these lines then we could put the car in autopilot and have the satellites and computer systems drive the car. The only technology that I see is that from car manufacturers. For example, cars that can park themselves or brake to a stop if they see an obstruction in the road. What is the city doing about this? Nothing. Car manufacturers can’t do it by themselves. So as one little example of how I think when driving is this solid and breaking white line and the unlock/lock mindframe where one day I could just flip a switch to autopilot on my car, lock my right two wheels on the line and let the system take over. Another thing that I’m doing is using my turn signals against the markings to dream some more. Let me tell you, this is very hard to explain. The best thing for me to do is to video myself driving from the cockpit to explain what I am doing. But writing it down only makes me a better writer and maybe when I have perfected my concepts and know what I am doing I will film myself and present it to the audience. All I have to say is all this is experimental. I don’t know what it’s for. For example the right side of the car can be locked on that white line only to prepare the car for lift off. So your driving and you want to fly the car by a computer system. The line can prep the car for takeoff. We have to invent anti-gravity in which I firmly believe to be one hundred percent possible. And I’ll tell you why: if we can have natural gravity, we can make gravity. The inventors of the plane first looked at birds and that example I think gave them the confidence that one day we could fly too. Whatever phenomenon you see around you can be replicated by technology. So in respect to anti-gravity – it is only the opposite of gravity. As far as I’m concerned the energy from the sun can be replicated. I think it’s called fission, but I am not sure. Or is it cold fission with endless energy. Think about it how did the sun come about? By the collision of gases or whatever. It’s right there as an example of what we can accomplish. Back to the driving. If you could make your driving predictable and that’s what the markings on the road want you to do then there would be far fewer accidents. By making your driving predictable you become a defensive driver with an assertive disposition. For example, if you encounter a right arrow on the road you must make that right; you cannot change your mind and take a different path like it’s some kind of joke. All the city roads are built on heavy duty logic and that’s how the city manages the driving population. If we didn’t have these markings and signs everything would be chaotic which in no way would be somewhere where I would want to live. Also, if the markings on the road are faded then I would say that you are not at fault if you make a driving mistake. But I think the city does a good job at maintain the streets. One precaution that I would advise is to never ever run a red stop sign. Don’t even do the California roll. At a stop sign you have to come to a complete stop I don’t care what. That’s one firm rule I have for myself is that you come to a complete stop at a red stop sign. Another thing that I think about when locking the right two wheels is that I could be going through a wormhole for a given amount of time and then coming out of the wormhole thus making me reach my destination faster. All this is a dream. That’s all I’m doing is using my imagination. When I see a right arrow I know that a hard right is coming up and I obey the markings to the letter which makes me a very responsible driver. But I do this at high speeds on the local roads. I would advise you to not try this. I have been perfecting my driving for a very long time and it’s something that I find very fascinating especially with a sports car. I would not drive this way if I had a sports utility vehicle. It would most certainly have to be a sports car. I’m also experimenting with my speedometer and rpm gauge. I’m going to have to explain this later.
